Polarised Thinking
& Mental Health
When under stress, it's common for our minds to gravitate towards extremes - otherwise known as thought polarisation or black-and-white thinking.

Our minds, by default, tend to be reactive, judgmental, and critical - especially towards ourselves. This negative loop can be relentless and exhausting.

Yet amidst this chaos, there exists a part of our minds that is reflective, considerate, and understanding. It's the part that challenges assumptions, remains curious about alternatives, dislikes change but sees opportunity in it nonetheless.

While one side catastrophises every situation, the other seeks clarification and balance. To navigate through this mental tug-of-war effectively, it's crucial to cultivate self-assertiveness and self-assurance.

By acknowledging both aspects of our psyche - the critical and the compassionate - we can strive for a more balanced approach to our thoughts and actions.

Do you commit to making a change to something in your life only to lose momentum or interest shortly after? Our brain is hardwired to set unrealistic expectations, requiring minimal effort whilst anticipating quick results. When we fail to reach a goal, the brain reaffirms lasting change is unachievable. Learning why our brain is hardwired towards unrealistic extremes can transform our view on goal setting.

The 4 Buddies represent characters within us that work as an internal team of helpers. These four buddies help us work with the critical, judgemental, fearful, and anxious parts of ourselves. The 4 Buddies incorporate the Observer, Confidant, Coach & Sage. These components are naturally within all of us. However, fear, worry & anxiety often bury or suppress these helpers.

Are my hopes/expectations realistic/focused? Can I identify clear/definable boundaries? Is there a sense of needing to control the outcome?

In many ways technology has made life a bragging contest of epic proportion. Driven by social media imposing unrealistic ideas of what 'achieving' should look like, whether its how much money we make, what clothes we wear, or how many likes a social media post receives.

Why choose Mind Symmetry?

I'm a firm believer that mental health is as vital as brushing your teeth. Yet one of the most neglected aspects of our daily lives. Having found talking therapy only took me so far. I decided to invest all my time in personal research of the psychology field, applying valuable tools and techniques and discarding what didn't seem to work, at least for me.

In the process, I formulated a simple, often overlooked technique. Approaching the same mental blocks with a fresh perspective, addressing everyday problems to more life-challenging situations.

The techniques are in no way intended to substitute or replace professional guidance. Please note I do not hold recognised accreditation/s within the mental health sector and therefore, please seek professional advice.

For further guidance, please refer to the T&C's section on the website.
